The flight by plane has increased substantially in Romania

Romanians increasingly prefer to travel by plane at the expense of buses, especially if they are from destinations outside the country, such as Italy or Spain. In addition to the affordable cost, they say that it is much more convenient, more comfortable and faster to reach the destination to the detriment of other means of transport.

This has proven to be more and more common since low-cost companies entered the market and offered very good ticket prices, so Romanians take advantage of this advantage and travel more by plane than in the past, both inside the country. as well as outside the borders.

According to statistics, over 10 million Romanian passengers flew by plane in the first 6 months of 2019, which is about 8% more than in 2018. The most frequented route was Romania-Luton, United Kingdom.

The increase in air traffic in Romania is due not only to the low-cost companies, but also to the fact that more and more Romanians are migrating to other European countries in search of work. This is around 7.7% higher than the increase in air traffic at European level.

As the frequency of passengers at the airport, the busiest in Romania is the Henri Coanda airport in Bucharest, with 3.46 million passengers boarded and 3.37 million passengers disembarked in the first half of this year.

The second airport is Aurel Vlaicu from Cluj Napoca, with over 680 thousand passengers boarded and 650 thousand passengers disembarked, followed by Timisoara with approximately 350 thousand passengers. The least frequented airports in Romania is Tulcea, which had only 8 passengers in the first half of the year.

The most frequented destinations are Luton-Great Britain (480,150 passengers), followed by Milan-Italy (241,000 passengers) and then Munich-Germany (200,000 passengers).

As European countries, Italy is the most visited by Romanians, followed by the United Kingdom and then Germany. This is due to the fact that they have several airports where Romanians buy their flight tickets, depending on their nearest area.

And yet, even though air traffic has increased in recent years, at European level we are far behind, because we only reach the average of 1 passenger / head , while the European average is 3-4 passengers / head.
